Sun, April 6, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Convention Center, Floor: 200 Level, Hall E

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the existence of underlying groups in the quality of teacher-student relationship (TSR) and a longitudinal transition between the TSR groups from middle to high school in Korea, with a consideration of the impact of educational context variables and the association with students’ motivation and attitude for learning. A majority of Korean middle and high school students in this study did not perceive their TSR to be positive. However, for students who had poor TSR in middle school, there was relatively higher probability for changes towards a moderate or positive relationship with teachers in high school. Students who had a positive TSR were likely to have more adaptive motivation and learning attitude.
