The purpose of this study is to examine the ways in which 12 school faculty members (i.e. teachers, counselors, administrators, and support staff) of color from seven urban public high schools enact their sociopolitical consciousness to increase their Black and Latino male students’ college readiness. By a sociopolitical consciousness we mean an awareness of and desire to act against societal inequities that disadvantage people of color, particularly Black and Latino males, while simultaneously equipping students with requisite academic skills (Ladson-Billings, 2001).
