Hiding in the Shadows: African American and Latina Females’ Achievement by Race, Class, and Gender

Abstract

The study aims to provide data on a critical analysis of the achievement of African American females in grades 4 and 5. While most research studies on African American and Latino girls focus on feelings, perceptions and attitudes about their school experiences, or male to female comparisons, limited studies, if any, exist that examines gender differences by ethnicity, class and gender differences with regard to subject and sub- test objectives on reading, math and science national and state assessments.
