Abstract
This conceptual paper draws on the idea that social capital exists in semi-isolated communities of Appalachia. This paper yields an insider perspective of stakeholders who have attended or graduated from a small rural high school and face their own barriers within the district itself. The article focuses on three stakeholder groups including community members, school staff and graduate/attendees from a semi-isolated community in a small rural school district and their response to a series of semi-structured interview questions focused on assets, resources, barriers and social capital.
