This quantitative study was designed to investigate if children returned to Head Start programs bore more language learning skills and if the program locations in rural or small towns tended to make some differences. With this purpose, we analyzed the literacy level of children at the beginning of Fall 2006, in Alabama Head Start centers, and compares the results between returning and non-returning, also between 3 and 4 year olds concerning located in rural and small towns. The results reveal that returning children have higher literacy skills, regardless of being in a center located in a rural or small town. Old age children performed better whilst children from IEP have lower literacy skills.
