Globalization, Place, and Imagery in Educational Leadership

Mon, April 7, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Convention Center, Floor: 100 Level, 118A

Abstract

Conflicting perspectives about the focus educational leadership programs (Breault, 2010; Hess & Kelly, 2007; Levine, 2005), a dearth of research about leader education course design and content (Hess & Kelly, 2007), and limited scholarship about leader educators classroom experiences (Frick & Riley, 2010) render studying of leader education practices necessary and important. My self study addresses this need, examining the ways that place theory and imagery can be used to counter forces of globalization that diminish agency and relational learning in educational leadership. I use place theory (Eacott, 2010; Gruenewald, 2003; Steele, 1981) to examine the empirical, hermeneutic, and critical layers of my self study research, thereby contributing to the theory of placemaking in the field of educational leadership.
