Validation of a Motivational Regulation Scale for Korean Elementary, Middle, and High School Students

Abstract

This study was conducted to validate Wolters’ revised motivational regulation scale (2010) for students in Korea using both Rasch measurement model and structural equation modeling. Initial analysis showed that the instrument is not composed of one factor. In addition, confirmatory factor analysis model showed that five factor model was more valid for elementary, middle and high school students. Both structural and measurement invariance assumption was satisfied. The instrument is interpreted in the same way by elementary, middle, and high school students, which indicates the external validity of the instrument. The Rasch analysis also showed that this motivational regulation scale is not unidimensional. Further analysis will be conducted comparing the results of both Rasch measurement and traditional factor analysis models.
