Abstract

This paper reports preliminary findings from an on-going study of pre-service teachers’ technology skills, beliefs and perceived barriers for using technologies in K-12 classrooms. Results of data analysis indicate digital-native pre-service teachers’ technology skills varied from year to year. Their technology beliefs were overall positive and also varied from year to year. Their perceptions of barriers for using technology in schools remained relatively stable. They viewed the lack of knowledge about technology, lack of knowledge about ways to integrate technology into the curriculum, and lack or limited access to computers in schools as major barriers for using technology in schools. Findings from this study provide insights for teacher educators to prepare pre-service teachers for effectively integrating technology in classrooms.
