The Impact of Small-Group Direct Instruction on Second-Grade Hispanic Females Struggling in Reading

Abstract

This pre-post design study investigated the impact of small group direct instruction on 22 second grade Hispanic female struggling readers placed in English immersion and bilingual programs. Preliminary results indicate significant progress in English reading fluency among all participants. Students in bilingual classrooms also improved significantly in Spanish reading fluency.
