Administrative Structural Variables: Toward Greater Retention and Efficiencies

Abstract

Combining institutional data and measures with logistic regression is a viable means to determine where and how to allocate all too limited institutional resources and programming. Not many among us would argue against the understanding gained through qualitative research methods. Qualitative techniques are time-consuming and expensive, rarely leading to substantive or continually evolving change. Using knowledge of the past to predict outcomes for groups and programs based on valid and reliable measures of success allows us to efficiently explore what is working and provides valuable information about areas where improvement is needed. Additionally, by using our data to inform where our best return on investment lies we are able to determine the correct engagement mixture rate for our respective institutions.
