This mixed-methods study quantitatively compares (N=149)and qualitatively explores (n=34)youths’ perceptions of and participation in emotional communication patterns in school versus a neighborhood-based after-school program. Further, we examine relationships between emotional expressivity in each setting, distress disclosure in general, and measures of school belonging, school engagement, and motivation to attend and participate in an after-school program.
