This study examines how parenting style relates to home literacy environment during preschool with the sample of children, mostly African Americans, and how these factors individually, and jointly, influence their literacy development by testing direct, meditational, and moderational models. Specific attention is given to quality of home literacy environment that may be related to three parenting style dimensions. In addition, we explore how parenting styles and home literacy environment impact a variety of early literacy and language skills, including vocabulary skills, print and alphabet awareness, and phonological awareness.
