Although Native Americans are increasing enrollment in higher education they represent only 0.9% of the total student college enrollment relative to them being 1.9% of the total United States population. Little is known about their college choice process. Using a sequential, explanatory mixed methods design, we explore factors that influence the choice of Native students to attend the University of Arizona relative to their White and Latina/o peers. We utilize a “family education model” to view college choice from a more collective/familial perspective that will inform and enhance efforts to increase Native American students’ access to higher education.
