A Critical Race Analysis of Highly Engaged and Influential Parents in a Mixed-Race Elementary School

Fri, April 4, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Convention Center, Floor: Terrrace Level, Terrace III

Abstract

This ethnographic case study examines the roles racism and White supremacy play in the involvement of highly engaged and influential parents of different races at a mixed-race elementary school with internal racial disparities. I join critical scholars in the effort to shift the onus of racial disparities in education from individual students, families, and teachers to a broader system of racial oppression.
