The purpose of this study was to assess the psychometric properties of a modified scale assessing students’ expectancy for academic success. The scale included 20 items based on the Revised Generalized Expectancy for Success Scale (Hale, Fiedler, & Cochran, 1992). Approximately 584 college students completed the scale and principle component analysis was conducted. A four-factor solution was supported by the data and initial eigenvalues indicating the first four factors explained 37%, 13%, 7%, and 5% of the variance, respectively. Analyses of the internal consistency yielded satisfactory results with adequate Cronbach’s alpha of .78 for Expectancy for Successful Academic Relationships, .88 for Expectancy for Completion of Academic Tasks, .89 for Expectancy for Completion of Education, and .84 for Expectancy for Failures.
