Think tanks are in a unique position to connect research to policy, given their reputation as scholarly organizations and their acquaintance with the policy process. Think tanks that function within the boundaries of certain ideological frameworks are widespread, and it is critical to understand their roles in informing and influencing educational policy in view of their ideological and political preferences. In this study, we examine the content on each conservative and progressive think tank's website that relates to what stands to be the most important issue in higher education, college cost and affordability. Thus, we shed light on the perspectives on college affordability held by each type of think tank, their policy preferences, and the nature of their legislative activity.
