Through this paper, we aim to further investigate how care is defined within urban schools. We argue that urban schools must engage in an authentic level of care for students to reconnect with their education in a personal, meaningful, and encouraging manner. The Russian nested doll captures aptly the concept of caring in schools. To reach a profound, or authentic form of care in school, the superficial layers must be stripped down. Thus in this paper, we offer an extension to the current literature on authentic care to move beyond the classroom and reshape caring at schools at an institutional level.
