Should I Stay or Should I Go Now? Where Latino Students Attend College and Who Helps Them Get There

Fri, April 4, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Convention Center, Floor: 100 Level, 109A

Abstract

Although college aspirations are nearly universal, Latino students continue to attend college at lower rates that their White and Asian American peers. This study examines Latino students’ college application process. Specifically, the current study explores the types of colleges to which Latino students apply, who (or what) is influential in the application process, and whether these students are satisfied with their college destinations. This study is unique in that it uses data from qualitative interviews and compares students who utilized a specialized college access program to those who had access to the same program but chose not to attend.
