The main objective of this paper is to report on design research that involves a learning science pedagogical approach—Productive Failure (PF) (Kapur, 2008; Kapur & Bielaczyc, 2012) —to redesign the learning sequence of engineering eLearning training course in the field of semiconductor industry. In particular, we present the preliminary results for our initial study in which we contrast and compare different design approaches for ill-to-well structured and well-to-ill structured learning activities about Statistic Process Control in the area of process engineering. The theoretical framing of this research and methods are discussed and preliminary finding are reported.
