Abstract

Students in a post-Soviet, Islamic context have historically received a schooling that is highly structured and preserves the status quo. In a Central Asian university MA in TESOL program teachers are provided with an opportunity for empowerment through engagement in the reflective processes inherent in qualitative/action research. Teachers in this study report that the reflective process of research has influenced their current teaching practices and developed their sense of agency.
