Toward a Framework for an Inclusive Model of Social Justice Leadership Preparation

Abstract

This paper offers an integrated framework for the design of educational leadership preparation programs that explicitly situate disability in the vision of social justice leadership and equity for all students. To achieve this integration, the authors examine the extent current standards for building level educational leaders inform their ability to guide the implementation of programs for students with disabilities. The professional standards for building level administrators are juxtaposed with the professional standards for special education administrators. Many of the dispositions, knowledge and skills identified by the latter are also relevant for building-level leaders. The paper offers implications for the design of leadership preparation programs to support candidates’ ability to create, sustain and implement programs for all children.
