Community College Transfer and Student Success: Do Academic Pathways Ease the Transition From Community Colleges to Four-Year Institutions?

Sun, April 6, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Marriott, Floor: Fourth Level, 409

Abstract

Despite large numbers of community college students who express a desire to earn a B.A., few successfully transfer to a four-year institution. Our study examines the effects of one of the largest statewide articulation and transfer policies, the Ohio Transfer Module (TM). The TM is a clearly defined set of general education requirements, designed to ease the transition of community college students to four-year universities. We use a large administrative dataset (81,196 students), and two estimation strategies to examine the effects of earning the Ohio transfer module degree on subsequent degree(s) earned.
