Physical and psychological maltreatment from teachers could seriously threaten student well being. This study contributes to our understanding of the nature of teacher maltreatment among Bedouin Arabs. Hierarchical Linear Modeling (HLM) approach is employed to examine the predictive effects of student- and teacher-level variables on physical/psychological maltreatment by teachers. The results indicate that there are significant teacher-student gender interaction effects on student perception of teacher abusive behavior. Specifically, female students tend to reports higher levels of physical and psychological maltreatment by teachers than do their male counterparts; also, girls perceive male teachers as more frequently engaging in physical maltreatment. This study may contribute to efforts to reduce abusive behavior among teachers in Bedouin Arab schools in Israel and elsewhere.
