Abstract

Many suburban schools are inexperienced in establishing a home/school connection with students and their families. Teachers and school leaders need to learn to recognize and use students’ home contexts to foster family involvement and student achievement (Hicks, 2001; Gonzalez, Moll & Amanti, 1992). The co-researchers in this study explored the relationship of home visits and teacher practice. The purpose of this research paper is to investigate the systematic inquiry conducted by an action research team. This paper will explore how initially the team was wary of action research and then they ultimately embraced the action research process and used it to strengthen their relationships and practice.
