Dominant discourse and definitions of parent involvement serve to marginalize Black parents and impede authentic participation in schools. This paper offers a counter-narrative, an analysis of the formation of a grassroots partnership between an urban district and Black parents, and an examination of the processes Black parents utilized to organize and the impediments they faced in maintaining fidelity to their stated advocacy objectives.
