The following paper explores the future time perspectives of girls of color in a culturally relevant technology enrichment program called COMPUGIRLS. As girls enter their adolescent years they begin to explore multiple aspects of future life. Students’ perceptions of their current cultural identities greatly influence the value placed on academic activities, which in turn influence their future lives. Intersecting race with gender and social class necessitates inquiries of technological potential within adolescent girls. Through participant observation, interviews, and digital product analysis, we present an examination of girls’ future time perspectives. Educators and scholars will benefit to consider how these girls develop technological future time perspectives and what interventions to offer to enrich the futures of students from under-resourced school districts.
