This study introduces and investigates a new series of 3D immersive game curricula, called Quest2Teach, designed specifically for teacher education, and using cutting-edge gaming technologies and the transformational play theory to inform its impact design. To test the theory of Transformational Play and its impact on teacher education, we implemented the ‘Quest2Teach: The Pursuit of Professionalism’ 3D immersive game across multiple pre-service teacher field experience courses with 250 students. This data suggests that the gaming context placed students as protagonist in an immersive classroom narrative, with scaffolded language/experiences, able to make authentic decisions, see their consequences played out, and gain fluency. Importantly, this led to nuanced and situated appreciation for the core professional competencies being learned through this game.
