The purpose of this study is to classify informal learning environments with Korean children’s participation in STEM activities and to reveal its characteristics. Data were collected through survey from 510 3rd grade students. Factor analysis and homogeneity analysis were used. The results are as follows. First, Korean elementary school students participate in the STEM activities at ten places. They were categorized into four types with the form of participation. Second, groups in each type had different characteristics of participation. This result can provide helpful insight for how children might expand the opportunity of participation in STEM activities and improve the quality of informal learning.
