Fri, April 4, 8:15 to 9:45am, Convention Center, Floor: 200 Level, Hall E

Abstract

Understanding preservice teachers’ background with technology is important because it influences their technology training as well as how they will use educational technology in the classroom to facilitate teaching and learning. This qualitative study explores the extent to which preservice teachers demonstrate characteristics of a distinct generation in terms of their everyday experiences with technology as well as their beliefs, attitudes, confidence, and self-reported skill levels regarding technology. Applying a phenomenological approach to studying experiences, narrative data were collected from 129 participants and were analyzed using Phenomenal Analysis. The findings of the study have implications for teacher education research as well as for the practice of technology training in teacher education programs and curricula.
