Engaging First-Generation Male College Students in Community-Based Education

Abstract

This paper presents qualitative findings from a mixed methods study of first-generation male college students who have participated in community-based learning experiences. First-generation male college students are among the students at highest risk of leaving college without completing a degree. Community-based learning is presented a possible strategy for engaging this population in postsecondary education.
