A channel is a natural stream or pathway. It serves as an analogy to assist in re-igniting the African American community, and igniting K-12 settings, and higher education leader/teacher development. This paper critically examines the dimensions of African American culture (Boykin, 1983), current realities in the effective education of African American learners, and emerging tenets in culturally responsive leadership. As a result of the analysis, a “counter narrative,” proposing channel development and not school to prison pipeline fulfillment prophecies, is shared as an imperative for social justice change agency.
