Latina/o students are becoming one of the dominate groups in K-12 classrooms, as well as higher education. Unfortunately, Latina/os who will comprise 24.4% of the U.S. population by 2030 are predicted to continue to have lower rates of degree attainment when compared to their White counterparts (Ennis, Rios-Vargas, & Albert, 2011). Therefore, this study examines whether social networks influence first-generation Latina/o students’ college choice process. More specifically, understanding how certain social networks’ expectations for Latina/o students impact their predisposition, search, and choice stage. This study will help to narrow down which social networks are most influential in firs-generation Latina/o students’ college choice process and thus, help to enhance the educational pipeline of Latina/o students’ in higher education.
