Out-of-School Time University-School-Community Partnerships: Closing Literacy Achievement Gaps in Urban Settings

Fri, April 4, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Convention Center, Floor: Terrace Level, Terrace IV

Abstract

Abstract: What matters most for struggling literacy learners in diverse high poverty schools? Are schools alone responsible for raising the achievement level of a student in reading? Or can a community of learners employing University-School-and-Community Partnerships come together and engage in research based literacy interventions outside of school? Are Out-of-School Time (OST) programs successful in closing the literacy achievement gap? The study utilized research based literacy interventions for struggling learners. It is a quasi-experimental model for community engagement in high poverty schools.
