The experiences of African American males have within and outside of the school setting are critical to their academic as well as social development. For many, these experiences are negative(e.g. racial profiling, harassment, racism, prejudice) and may have deleterious outcomes. My presentation will focus on how African American males may react to these experiences (e.g., bravado attitudes) as well how perception of school support may buffer reactions to these negative experiences and allow for more positive outcomes such as increased self-efficacy, academic achievement, and academic motivation.
