Predicting the Performance of Bilingual Mexican Americans on Teacher Certification Exams

Fri, April 4, 8:15 to 10:15am, Convention Center, Floor: 100 Level, 121C

Abstract

Despite the significant growth among Latinos in the United States (U.S. Census, 2010), the teaching force remains overwhelmingly White, as Latino students continue to be underrepresented in institutions of higher education and, more specifically, within teacher education programs. The purpose of this research was to analyze how reading test scores on the THEA, SAT, GPA, and Precertification Exams scores predict Mexican-American students' performance on the Bilingual Generalist, Texas Examination of Educator Standards (TExES). Results revealed statistical significant results for two multiple regression models.
