In this presentation we will explore the challenges in urban district leadership, changes undertaken in improving outcomes, and the network churn in the system in response to both challenges and changes. In undertaking this work we will draw on longitudinal social network data sets of educational leaders in urban systems and examine how relationships between these leaders change over time with a particular emphasis on the use of research evidence in district-wide reform. This work highlights the dynamic nature of social relationships and pushes beyond more static assessments of social networks.
