Knowledge Production in Education Systems and Organizations: Intra- and Interschool Interactions About Instruction

Sun, April 6, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Convention Center, Floor: 200 Level, 201A

Abstract

Spillane & Hopkins explore the potentials and challenges in using SNA to study intra and inter school knowledge production focusing on both teachers and school leaders in local education systems and schools. This talk not only reports on findings from various studies but also considers fundamental epistemological and methodological challenges in using SNA to study knowledge production and school leadership and management. The author argues that scholars using SNA need to move beyond an exclusive reliance on standard SNA measures to work on developing new study operations and measures using SNA approaches.
