Abstract

Klaus Mollenhauer’s Forgotten Connections: On Culture and Upbringing (1983) is internationally regarded as one of the most important German contributions to educational and curriculum theory in the 20th century. Having appeared Japanese, Swedish, Spanish and Dutch, it is now available in English (Routledge 2013). This panel, which includes international researchers and North American practitioners, will introduce and contextualize the text, and illustrate its power for practice. The four-part panel begins with an introduction to this text and its activist author; the panel continues with the book’s contextualization in its own continental cultural environment, and subsequently, by outlining its relevance to issues in English-language educational contexts. It will conclude with a discussion of its power and potential in teacher-training practices.
