Session Type: Symposium
This symposium brings together the work of scholars of different countries, the US, UK, Chile and the Netherlands who critically analyze current and often controversial developments in teacher education. While national contexts may be different, developments such as accountability, marketization and increasing control by national and federal government impact teacher education on a global level. Each paper discusses how their national government and other social or political groups compete for the control over the structure and contents of teacher education. The symposium is not only a platform for critique, the different positions of the presenters and the discussion with the audience also offer insights in possible alternatives for national policies for teacher education.
