Abstract

This session includes fours papers focused on the analysis of race- and ethnic-based inequalities across national contexts with a focus on the role of higher education as an intervening force for social justice. The cross-cultural, comparative nature of the session includes papers that discuss race, ethnicity, and caste in the following nations: Brazil, China, England, India, South Africa, and the United States. In advancing a comparative perspective of race and ethnicity and the role of higher education, the session’s participant heed the call of a number of sociologists who have increasingly pointed to the need for such analysis, especially in light of the growing influence of globalization and immigration.
