Abstract

The topography of education research methods continues to undergo considerable growth. Today, it is generally accepted that no one method can sufficiently address complex and practically important questions in education. Despite this evolution in research methodology, many researchers in the field of professional education still rely on unsophisticated research methods. The purpose of this symposium is to introduce professional education researchers to several novel research methods that are currently being employed across the professions, including healthcare, teacher education, and engineering. In doing so, this symposium encourages professional education researchers to expand their repertoire of research methods, which ultimately has the potential to improve the quality of education research in the professions.
