Video Data and the Time-Image: Cinematic Methodologies in Education Research

Abstract

Increased emphasis on the use of video in educational research, often with little to no consideration for the material and philosophical concerns regarding the use of such media, suggests an urgent need to explore contemporary theoretical perspectives on video and screen media more generally, seeking out the implications for educational research practices. This panel session aims to open up this discussion by rigorously taking up and putting to work a set of media studies tools derived from the work of philosopher Gilles Deleuze and to use these in the analysis of video-based education research.
