Session Type: Symposium
Calls for evidence-based practice—“data use,” “research use,” “evidence use”— share a similar premise: various forms of evidence and data, placed in the hands of educators, will bring about improvements in teaching and learning. However, these areas of study have been explored in isolation, creating a need to bridge across these concepts to draw conclusions more broadly. The theoretically driven papers in this symposium span across these bodies of literature and consider a range of evidence users – teachers, school leaders, and district administrators. Our aim is to understand the conditions under which evidence use leads to deep changes in practice, and what types of evidence are more or less likely to instigate such changes.
