Abstract

The nature of higher education in the U.S. has been radically altered by the influx of commercialized forces, policies and practices. This symposium presentation provides an overlooked examination of how the contemporary academic labor market impacts the social and economic well-being of graduate students. Moreover, the panelists of the symposium tap theoretical insights of critical scholars and share their personal narratives of grappling with student loan debt and working as contingent faculty for the purpose of making graduate studies and higher education more equitable and sustainable for everyone.
