School Leadership in Chinese Society: Impact of Academic Research on School Improvement

Abstract
The purpose of this symposium is to provide a forum to examine school leadership in the Chinese societies of Taiwan and Mainland China. International experience shows that high-quality education is the result of good instructional leadership as well as an all-round focus on training and supporting school leaders. The most important responsibility of school leadership is to help enhance the quality of teaching and learning. This session addresses the following questions: 1) What are leadership traits of excellent principals based on the perspective of media reports in Mainland China? 2) How is instructional leadership practiced and evaluated in schools, especially in high-quality schools? 3) What is the relationship between psychological empowerment and job burnout for school’s building-level leaders?
