Constructing a Common Curriculum: System, Discipline, School, and Classroom

Abstract
The focus of this symposium is the process of curriculum realization in the context of reforms and aspirations concerned with common standards or common curriculum frameworks. The papers take up four different approaches to research in relation to these developments, each providing a different lens not just on what is happening in different subjects and countries but on the kinds of questions these raise for education and education research. The symposium represents the curriculum as both product and agent and implicitly interrogates the “work” done by the Common Core Standards to reconstruct subject boundaries and content, school aspirations, and teacher planning.
