Abstract

The purpose of the symposium is to examine theoretical approaches for research and development activities in vocational education and training (VET) and career and technical education (CTE) internationally. Research and development as activities are different in nature, but how do they actually differ in terms of targets, actors, aims, practices, interests, and contexts? Some theories and research approaches, such as a system theory of educating researchers, developmental work research and work-based learning used in VET and CTE research are analyzed by international presenters who come from the United States, Finland and Australia. The symposium is a contribution to academic discussion about some VET and CTE research interests and premises behind the problems studied.
