Abstract

Since the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) results serve as a common metric for all states and selected urban districts, many researchers are interested in analyzing NAEP data. NAEP data, however, pose much challenge due to their unique data structure, e.g. multiple plausible values instead of one scale score to analyze. The purpose of this class is to provide interested researchers, either emerging or continuing, with the practical knowledge and tools to analyze NAEP data. This class consists of two parts: (i) introduction of psychometric and sampling design of NAEP and (ii) hands-on practice of NAEP data with plausible values using an NAEP sample data file, Primer. Participants need to bring a laptop with the Windows and SPSS installed.
