Abstract

This symposium starts with the presumption that the proximate causes of school shootings rest upon ethical and political underpinnings that call for education scholars’ critical attention. We will bring a variety of critical approaches to bear on the relationship between the school curriculum and gun violence. By exploring the disconcerting implication of ordinary schooling in extraordinary events, the symposium should provide attendees with a deeper understanding of the ethical and political connections between gun violence and schools.
