College Access Policy on the Disadvantaged in China: Perspectives of Different Groups

Abstract

As an important system of choosing talents, college access policy not only influences individual’s future social mobility and career prospects, but also has the functions of adjusting social stratification and facilitating social equity. How to guarantee students from different families, with different social, political, economic, cultural, religious backgrounds obtain opportunities to colleges has become a universal issue. In response to it, this symposium aims at examining the current college access policy in China. Particularly, we focus on this topic specifically on the disadvantaged, where the core of social justice and educational equity lies, to examine the challenges and pitfalls that China’s higher education reform faces. Also, our studies provide new insights into possible responses to the challenges from different perspectives.
